Juan Guaidó flees to the United States

Venezuelan opposition figure and traitor Juan Guaido is headed for the United States, after claiming that he had traveled to Colombia “within the context of the summit convened by President Petro” to be held on Tuesday. Colombia’s Foreign Minister responded to the news, saying Guaido wasn’t invited by him to the event and doesn’t know his whereabouts.

The US and 50 other nations had recognized Guaidó as Venezuela’s interim president in a failed attempt to coup President Maduro.

But times have definitely changed: Maduro is more in charge than ever, given recognition by Biden admin officials and negotiators, and Juan Guaido has fled, having landed in Miami on Tuesday to seek "refuge" in the United States.

The following statement was released by Migración Colombia just before 11pm local time.

In the afternoon, Migration Colombia took Mr. Juan Guaidó, a Venezuelan national who was in Bogotá irregularly, to the El Dorado airport with the intention of verifying his departure on a commercial airline to the United States. The ticket had already been purchased by him.

The Washington Post reports that he literally had to walk across the border into Colombia before departing to the US. Guaidó made it to Bogotá but was “expelled” from the country

Guaido then complained in a social media video that "The persecution of the dictatorship, unfortunately, spread to Colombia today" - but which Colombian officials denied. They only said he entered the country "irregularly".

It is not true then that the national government has had a plane to transfer Mr. Guaidó to that country. Migration Colombia is vigilant that this trip occurs without any delay.

Whenever Mr. Guido made appearances in public, he was usually met by a barrage of flying plastic chairs and fisticuffs

Guaido reportedly entered the US on a tourist visa and is considering whether or not to apply for asylum. An asylum entry could result in his never again being allowed to step foot inside Venezuela for as long as Maduro remains in power.

WaPo further details that "He arrived in Miami on a commercial flight Tuesday morning, alone and toting a backpack." Further, "He told reporters he feared for his wife and two children, who he said had been threatened and were in danger."

Once upon a time, Guaidó drew enormous crowds of backers into the streets, but much of his momentum has evaporated. His popularity has dropped from about 60% three years ago to under 15% in February.
