July 8, 2022 - 15:33 Former Japan PM Shinzo Abe (67) was shot during a campaign speech. A man approached him from behind as he was giving a speech and shot him twice. He was shot in the chest and neck.

After the first shot Abe turned around and faced his attacker, he was then shot again in the chest. There he collapsed.

The weapon appeared to be a home-made sawed off shotgun. Japan has the strictest gun laws in the world, political violence almost unthinkable. So there was much consternation as to where the gun came from.

In recent weeks Mr Abe suffered many death threats via Japanese social media. He even jokingly replied to one post that said he should lay down and die.

After reports of his shooting chinese social media was elated and wished him a quick passing.

The bullet that killed former Japanese leader Shinzo Abe was “deep enough to reach his heart,” doctors at Nara Medical University, who were treating him said in a news conference Friday.

They said he was bleeding profusely and a team of 20 doctors couldn’t stop it — leading to him dying from excessive bleeding.
